  1 Liked it?

Well due to the frequent changes in Facebook, we are experiencing many good’s and the bad’s features and some of them are buggy also. Many people keep on searching the exact dimensions and sizes of their respective upload centers such as Fan Page’s Profile Picture, Facebook Custom Tab, Cover Pictures etc. so as to give a stylish look to their profiles/pages in a proper centered resolution. Sizes matter a lot when you are possessive for your customization’s. As an over size or low size picture won’t give you the desired satisfactory looks. Have you checked out the Facebook Cheat Sheet of Sizes and Dimensions ? Keep Reading then! ;)

Facebook Timeline Dimensions

After the recent introduction preview of Facebook Timeline Brand Pages, some new styles have been added and the previous ones have been modified.

It is quite necessary that you should be aware of the exact Length and Breadth of the popular boxes, especially your Timeline Cover Picture, as you create an amazing Photoshop art for your cover picture but when you upload it the portion you want to be visible gets cropped while re-positioning. Even if you drag the photo and bring it to your desired showcase then the portion that was seen before will be hidden. Thus it’s better to create something within the known limits so that your hard work doesn’t gets hidden. It could be seen within the timeline cover!

The Original Cheat Sheet has been carried out by Priit Kallas, where all the necessary sizes and dimensions of Facebook have been mentioned. Below are the Updated Facebook Cheat Sheet of Sizes and Dimensions. Check them out after the Jump! ;)

You’re welcome Buddy :) Facebook changes eventually. You can’t expect what you see new in the next moment. But this time, the Brand Pages are something worth commendable. I loved them but the only demerit of it is that they don’t have a Default Landing Tab where you could have welcomed your Visitors! :|

Timeline on profiles looks good but on pages – I don’t know. Maybe its the new effect but I don’t like it.

      Hello Zine,

Timeline is a kind of scrapbook where all your activities, past and present have been compiled together which you can enjoy seeing after. However on profiles it is suitable for as the concept of Brand pages is new, so it’s a bit odd to accept them. But slowly we’ll be able to adjust with the new layouts !

Same here, I do not like the timeline. :( The pic size will not change that. I don’t even like visiting the pages that have a timeline. It is difficult to find anything on them. I am thankful for the helpful information, and any information on how to make the best of it tho. I have found that since the switch I am only spending an hour a day on fb. That is good I guess for me, I was spending the majority of my day on here. I do more web searching on Google then time on fb now.

        Hello Kat,

Well there’s a lot of people who are against the Timeline but unfortunately nothing can be to revoke back to your Old Profile Layout Permanently. Though you can use some scripts/plugins for your browser for doing so, but it won’t restore it permanently. That’s why to troubleshoot the Timeline Issues, I have mentioned all the Necessary Sizes and Dimensions of it so that people can make the Best outta it. :)

The Facebook custom tab is only 520 wide? My pre-timeline tabs were 500 and I haven’t updated them yet, but there looks to be a LOT of white space on either side.

Yes Rich. For the time, Custom Apps haven’t been updated for the New Timeline which offers 810px wide Space for the Customs Tab. The Development of iFrames is going on and soon they will be live with the New Tabs for the Brand Pages. But now, you can see much spaces on the both sides when the content is aligned at center!

Thank you for such a great share. Based on the information given in the presentation, I’s able to come up with this demo page, showing how these details can be used to fill in timeline based new page.

It’s actually very complicated in this busy life to listen news on TV, therefore I just use world wide web for that reason, and take the hottest information.

This might sounds like a dumb question, but I’m going to ask anyway. If I make a template in Photoshop for a timeline cover, what resolution should it be? 300ppi or 72ppi? Thanks, Barbara

    • Abhisek Das

You’re free to ask any sort of questions Barbara :) Well it’s choice of choosing the resolution either 300ppi/72ppi. But you should keep in mind that the resolution of the Facebook Timeline Cover is approximately 19:7 i.e. 851x315px

Nobody can seem to answer my question which is…..why are photos I diplay “highlighted” on my Timeline shown bigger ( with parts of the photo missing or not showing ) using Firefox than with IE 8. I use IE and when i set up my Timeline I upload 6 or so photos to an album and the larger wider ones I like to “highlight” on my Timeline and they fit great and look super using IE. But then someone told me to look at my Timeline shares of photos using Firefox browser and I was shocked that only the center of photos show with Firefox, and they are HUGE viewing with Firefox. Any way you know of to change the size sgowing in Firefox without reducing the size manually of the actual phpotos themselves? ( meaning using a grapics program to reduce them which then causes them to look teeny tiny on my profile using IE ). Thanks for any answer, if there is one.

In regards my previous post ( question ) just above this one, I can provide you with a screenshot of my Timeline ( one of the photos diaplayed I’m referring to ) taken both using IE and then one using Firefox, which shows how differently the same photos looks using the two different browsers. ( sorry as well for the typos in the previous post )

It’s very simple Jenny. I guess the resolution might be different in Firefox other than in IE. But you can put up your desired thumbnail while highlight any picture/post with an image. Simply click on the edit icon of the picture (highlighted one) and select “Reposition Photo”. Now you can drag the image up/down and keep a thumbnail as you want!
